Matched Betting Tips

These small tips will prolong your matched betting career

Manually find Oddsmonkey bets
The Oddsmatcher will recommend the best bet to place for free bets or qualifying bets. Inside each bet selection your are able to lay the bet via linking to Smarkets, we recommend this as Smarkets encourages matched bettors! However we advise against using the URL shortcut option as bookmakers can see your "Safe URL Redirect" from the Oddsmonkey calculator and become suspicious increasing the chances of an account ban, shortening your matched betting career.

Bet consistant stakes
We recommend betting around £10 as your normal stake, this qualifies for most bet promotions along with the £5 bet promotions offered by some book makers. Keeping a consistent stake can show your a regular punter increasing account longevity making more money in the long run!
Occasionally a price boost can look attractive as we can lock in profit! Refrain from betting abnormally higher than normal amounts/ near max stake this will look bad on your account history and could prompt a account overview. This is due to bookmakers understanding that these specific bets are loved by matched bettors and can catch us out!

Limit betting max stake
Oddsboosts have max stakes due to their boosted price and return. Betting max stake will brand you as a smart bettor and therefore unprofitable by the bookmaker. A stake cap of typically £1 would be applied to your account inhibiting any future price boosts that could be available to you!

Weekly clubs
Some bookmakers offer clubs, like sky bet. Betting £30 a week will grant you a free £5 bet of your choice! For this Skybet example we recommend betting on odds boosts throughout the week to qualify for the club while not betting max stake. Also missing some weeks of Skybet club sounds counter intuitive but helps remove the essence of "smart bettor". Never bet exactly £30 on a single bet at the start of the week.

Bet on big markets
The oddsmatcher scans all markets and recommends the best bet with the lowest qualifiying loss however these can be on any type of league. We highly recommend refining your bets to only big competitions and sports for example the Premier League/ Championships/ UEFA or NBA/NFL/NHL or Wimbledon and PGA tours etc. Betting on events like Chinese basketball or Croatian football will single you out from regular bettors and possibly classing you as a smart bettor/ matched bettor leading to bans.

Mug Bets
Placing a few random bets through the week along with the regular qualifying bets (towards promotions) will make you appear to be a regular punter.

High odds
Betting on large odds will mainly use up a large amount of liquidity on Smarkets/ the Exchange preventing further bets from being placed. They have a lower chance of winning however upon a win a large loss within the exchange occurs causing a large quantity of funds within the betting account. This is not ideal (explained in our next tip).

Limit Withdraws
To avoid overviews of your betting account withdraw funds at little as possible, upon a withdraw the funds need to be verified which causes a overview of your betting account. Repeated action can cause stake limitations and bans.
Our previous point of avoiding very high odds bets prevents possible large wins to the betting account. These funds are lost from the exchange and therefore cannot be utilised for further lay bets.
